Bold, colorful art doesn’t come from nowhere.
It comes from lived experience, culture, emotion, and intuition.
As a digital artist, stay-at-home mompreneur, and someone who creates entirely from my iPad using Procreate, my art is shaped by many layers of who I am. I create while raising two little humans (a boy and a girl), building a business from my home, and honoring the cultures and beliefs that have always influenced how I see the world.
I didn’t choose my bold art style, it grew naturally from my background, my love for color, and my desire to create with intention.

ToggleMy Heritage Is at the Heart of My Art
I am Mexican American, German Mix, and my Mexican roots, especially my Otomi folk art influence, play a huge role in how I create.
Otomi art is vibrant, symbolic, expressive, and unapologetically colorful. It’s rich with storytelling, pattern, and movement. As I have grown, I have researched and explored this sacred part of me which has naturally shaped how I reach for color and form today.
That influence shows up in:
- Repeating motifs
- Playful, folk inspired shapes
- Bold color combinations
- Decorative pattern work that, to me, feels alive
Pattern, especially, feels like a language I instinctively understand. That’s why so much of my work eventually becomes surface design, which I expand on in How to Build a Pattern Collection That Feels Cohesive.
My art is loud by design and I aim to tell a story visually, emotionally and culturally with every artwork I make.
Color Is My Creative Anchor
Color has always been non-negotiable for me. In my personal opinion, it is one of the most important pieces to me.
I didn’t chose my core color palette randomly. I chose them intuitively based on emotion, energy, and what I’m manifesting or moving through in my life at that moment. Color helps me process, express, and shift my mindset. In simple terms, my color palette makes me happy.
That connection is why my work leans bold, saturated, and joyful. Color isn’t just some decoration in my art, it’s communication. I explore this deeply in Why Color Matters in Everyday Life, because the same emotional pull I feel as an artist is the same energy people feel when art lives in their space.
Manifestation & Whimsy Influence My Work
I truly believe in manifestation and its practices. It’s more than just positive thinking; it’s about intentionally building a life that feels right for you.
That belief shows up in my art through:
- Whimsical elements
- Playful symbolism
- Joy forward visuals
- Trying to add a sense of magic woven into every piece
My art is meant to feel uplifting, expressive, and a little dreamy. It reflects the idea that creativity can be both grounding and expansive at the same time.
Creating as a Stay at Home Mom Shapes My Style
Motherhood changed how I create…in the best way.
My studio isn’t a separate room (although I wish I had that…ha). It’s my kitchen island, my couch, or wherever my iPad fits into the day. Because I work digitally, my art is built in pockets of time between real life moments.
That reality has taught me:
- That it’s okay if I can’t work today because the little one is fussy or my son is sick
- That building a business alongside motherhood requires flexibility, not pressureCreate art that feels energizing instead of draining
- That forcing productivity only leads to burnout, not better art
This approach is why I lean in to creating once and letting my art live in multiple ways, whether that’s as digital products, patterns, or print-on-demand designs across platforms like Etsy, Spoonflower, Threadless, and Redbubble.
Why Bold Art Feels So Natural to Me
Bold, colorful art feels honest to who I am.
It reflects my culture, my creativity, my beliefs, and the season of life I’m in. It allows my work to exist confidently whether it’s living as a digital download, fabric design, home decor piece, or art print.
This is also why bold art makes such meaningful statement pieces and gifts, something I explore further in Why Bold Art Makes Better Gifts.
Final Thoughts
My bold art style is a blend of:
- Heritage
- Color
- Pattern
- Manifestation
- Motherhood
- And creative intuition
It’s built from who I am, how I live, and what I believe art can do.
I don’t create to fit into a box. I create to express, to honor my roots, and to bring more color, joy, and intention into everyday life…for myself and for others.
And that’s something I’ll always stand behind.
